Attendance Procedures

How Attendance Is Recorded

At UP International College attendance is recorded for every class.

Student’s will be marked P for present, if they attend their timetabled class.

Student’s will be marked A for absent, if they do not attend their timetabled class.

If a student is absent from class for medical reasons, they must provide a medical certificate dated the same day they are sick by a registered New Zealand Doctor. (this applies to onshore students) or a registered International Doctor (this applies to offshore students).

If you provide a medical certificate to the Attendance Officer, your absences will be recorded as a M for medical. This absence will count against a student’s attendance rate with the school.

In a limited number of other cases, an absence may be considered as allowed, with the approval by the Head of College and will not count against the student but will still be recorded.

What you need to know

  • Backdated medical certificates are not accepted.
  • If you are absent from school or late for your class, it is your responsibility to contact the Attendance Officer.
  • All medical certificates are to be given to the Attendance Officer, in person or email a copy of your medical certificate using your school email address.

Other absences will be recorded as

E for explained absent. This means you have contacted the school and explained why you are absent from class or for the day.

This type of absence counts against you for the purposes of meeting visa requirements. It will also impact your attendance rate. However, this informs the school of your whereabouts, that you are safe, and the school will not need to contact your agent, parents or guardians.

Student Absences from Assessment

  • If a student is unwell or has other valid reasons for missing an internal assessment, they may be eligable for an assessed mark
  • Evidence such as a doctor’s certificate/breavement notice must be provided to support the request for an assessed mark.
  • Students must complete a Student Absences From Assessment Request for an Assessed Mark form within 48 hours (2 school days) of the internal assessment and email this to the subject teacher
  • The Request for an Assessed Mark form link below
  • If the information is correct, the subject teacher will email it to the student’s Dean. If the student’s request is granted, they will be granted an assessed mark upon completion of the course.

If a student is unable to meet this timeframe for any reason, they must contact the Head of College to explain the circumstances.
