Driving in New Zealand

  • It is illegal to drive in New Zealand without a valid Driver’s Licence.
  • If you drive a car without a valid Driver’s Licence, you will have no insurance cover.
  • Driving a car while drunk from alcohol or under the influence of other drugs is a crime. If you are caught by the police, you might be fined or imprisoned. UP International College might withdraw your Offer of Study and Immigration NZ will be informed.
  • If you injure or kill a person driving (especially under the influence of alcohol or other drugs), NZ Police will charge you with a criminal offence. You will probably be imprisoned.
